Printer Database

The printer database screen allows you to build a printer management database organized in folders that can control any number of printers, configurations, and download files.

  • Printers can be grouped by location, function, or any other user-defined criteria.
  • A new printer and its network properties can be added easily to the tree by using the printer database’s dialog screens.
  • New folders containing multiple printers are added in a similar way.

Coordinating the way print jobs are run at various locations is easy with the Printronix printer database. You can conveniently create or modify any printer’s configuration table.

Configuration Editor

The configuration editor allows you to upload any one of eight saved configurations from a selected printer or all the configurations of printers in a selected folder. These uploaded configurations can be stored at the PC host, modified, and downloaded to other printers.

Configuration Editor provides you the ability to:

  • Assure certain print jobs are printed consistently at all locations by downloading the required configuration to all the locations.
  • Store numerous printer configurations, any eight of which can be downloaded to a selected printer.
  • View the entire configuration of a remote printer for analysis.
  • Speed up remote printer troubleshooting by making it possible to pinpoint the exact conflicts in a user’s remote printer configuration and correct them.

Virtual Control Panel

The virtual control panel function displays a screen that looks like the printer’s physical control panel. This screen allows you to operate and configure the printer remotely as if you were present at the printer’s local site.

Printer Search

The Printronix PrintNet Search feature is used to locate all PrintNet-equipped printers on the network. The search automatically displays the presence of these printers and shows their individual status conditions without the need to specify IP addresses.  With the search, you can set and change the IP address of any Printronix printer.

Download PrintNet Enterprise Printer Management Software

PrintNet Printer Management Software is designed exclusively to be used with Printronix printers that are equipped with the PrintNet Network Interface Card. The software is available at no charge to Printronix customers.

PrintNet Network Interface Card (NIC) Description

An optional feature on all Printronix printers, the Printronix PrintNet Network Interface Card allows convenient internal connection to an Ethernet network. Once the PrintNet NIC is installed, you can simply plug its connector cable into an Ethernet outlet. The printer is then shared with other network users. This unique NIC has a built-in Internet home page, which allows you to display printer status and modify your Ethernet network settings through the use of a web browser only.

Once the printer’s home page appears after the printer’s IP address is sent, the manipulation of the following network configuration parameters is possible:

PRINTNET NETWORK INTERFACE CARD

  • Network (TCP/IP, Windows NetBIOS TCP/IP, and Novell).
  • Print Path (Destination, Model, Logpath, I/O port configuration).
  • Administration (Printer name, descriptive information, and passwords).
  • System (System operation modes -- reboot, factory defaults).
  • Current printer status.
  • Help (On-line help screens for PrintNet).
  • Event logging via e-mail alerts and Syslog messages.

When the printer configuration is complete, the information is saved to the printer’s flash memory. The printer is then ready to run print jobs on the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an external "pocket" print server?

A "pocket" print server is a commonly used network interface connection on the market that is external to a printer and independent of the printer software. The external print server is contained on a Network Interface Card that fits into a protective case small enough to fit in your pocket. You can plug it into the printer’s external parallel port. It resides outside the printer and often requires a separate power source and cables that can be dislodged or damaged.

Where does PrintNet NIC connect in a Printronix printer?

By contrast to the external print server, the PrintNet NIC is a proprietary Printronix Network Interface Card designed to be installed internally and operate with the Printronix Printer Management Software.

What are the advantages of PrintNet NIC?

The PrintNet NIC does much more than an ordinary external pocket server. It’s an integrated design, which has the advantage of two-way communication with its Printronix printer controller. As a result, you can use the Printronix Printer Management software to access all of the networked printer’s operational controls, settings, and status from your desktop PC.
